THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH ...

As a photo assistant working for some of the biggest names in photography during the 80's in NYC, one lucky perk was gaining access to the legendary Studio 54 nightclub.

One night, Studio (as the regulars called it) was hosting a major party and of course I had my camera with me. Upon seeing Andy Warhol with his ever present point-and-shoot, I found the courage to approach him and ask if he would mind if I took his picture. With a warm smile he said "sure" and as I nervously pointed my camera at him he quickly snapped a photo of me at the exact same time that I captured this photo of him.

Somewhere in his estate’s archives there may be a portrait of Steve Erle by Andy Warhol.
